Treatment

Early Treatment

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that a child has their first visit with an orthodontist by the age of seven. By starting treatment early, we are able to address potential problems and correct them before they become more serious. This will save you and your child time and money by preventing future problems before they begin.

During your child's first exam, we will first determine if there are any problems that need to be addressed, such as potential crowding, over bite, open bite and other issues. Phase 1 (what early treatment is commonly called) can include preventative, interceptive or modifying treatment.

There may be a need for an orthodontic appliance to be placed to prevent a problem from occurring, correct a current problem or help direct jawbone growth. Many issues with tooth alignment, gums, jaw and facial problems can be corrected with Phase 1 treatment.

To find out if this is something your child would need, please call our office to schedule a new patient appointment.

Adolescent Treatment

Orthodontic treatment for older children involves placing braces on the patient once his or her permanent teeth have erupted. The braces straighten the permanent teeth and finish correctly aligning the patient's jaw. Typically, by age 12, most, if not all, permanent teeth have erupted and are in place, which is when crooked teeth, gaps and bad bites can easily be detected. These problems will hardly ever correct on their own, so this is when most parents decide to seek orthodontic treatment for their children.

Adult Treatment

It is becoming more and more common today for adults to seek orthodontic treatment to improve their smile. We offer a full range of treatments specifically designed for adults-leaving you with a completely different smile and healthier bite.

Since adults are usually more compliant in their orthodontic treatment, their results are often better. By following the instructions provided by your orthodontist, you can enhance your results and shorten your treatment time!

We offer a wide variety of braces to meet the individual needs and desires of each of our adult patients. From traditional braces to advanced technology, we are confident we can help you achieve and maintain the beautiful and healthy smile you have dreamed about!

Types of Braces

Metal braces
Picture
Metal braces are made of high-quality, durable stainless steel. They are the most common type of braces. The brackets, which are bonded to the front of each tooth, are connected by the arch wire, which helps guide the teeth into the correct positions. Today's metal braces are smaller, more comfortable and more attractive.

Clarity braces

Clarity brackets feature a comfortable design with a translucent appearance. These braces are so sturdy that many orthodontists will recommend them to their patients who play sports. Patients are allowed to engage in most everyday activities without fear of delaying their progress.

Also, because they have a semi-transparent color that will not stain, patients can proceed with necessary orthodontic treatment without have to feel self-conscious. In addition, Clarity braces have a smooth, rounded shape that allows for greater patient comfort.

We recommend Clarity for our patients regardless of age. If you have questions about our Clarity brackets, consult your orthodontist.

Invisalign

Invisalign straightens your teeth without wires and brackets, using a series of clear, customized, removable appliances called aligners. It's virtually undetectable , which means hardly anyone will know that you're straightening your teeth.

Clearly Different
The Invisalign system combines advanced 3-D computer graphics technology with 100-year-old science of orthodontics. Invisalign aligners are designed to move your teeth in small steps to the desired final position prescribed by your orthodontist. Each aligner is precisely calibrated and manufactured to fit your mouth at each stage of the treatment plan. Your first step is to visit our office to determine if Invisalign is right for you. After sending precise treatment instructions, Invisalign uses advanced computer technology to translate these instructions in a sequence of finely calibrated aligners—as few as 12 or as many as 48. Each aligner is worn for about 2 weeks and only taken out to eat, brush and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next, your teeth will begin to move gradually—week-by-week until the final alignment in your case is attained. Then you will be smiling like you never have before!

Retention

Once we remove your braces or you finish with your Invisalign treatment, we will move into the retention stage of your treatment. Maintaining the results you achieved during the treatment phase is the key to the success of the entire orthodontic process. We ask that you wear your retainers all day for at least 4 months, and then we move you to night wear as long as there are no problems or movement.

Hawley retainers
The Hawley retainer is a removable retainer made of a combination of metal wires and sturdy acrylic, and is designed to keep your teeth in place. This retainer is specially made from impressions of your teeth so that it fits snugly and comfortably in the roof of your mouth, while any wire or acrylic framing keeps your teeth in perfect position. The acrylic can also be personalized with a large number or colors and/or patterns.
